Basic Level Avalanche Awareness

Basic Level Avalanche Awareness

Sorry. This event is canceled because there is not enough snow.

Offered by the Bridger Teton Avalanche Center, this two-day workshop will equip you with the knowledge you need to more safely explore our beautiful Bighorns backyard in the winter – knowledge you can take anywhere your adventures take you.

Learn from experts on Friday night and practice those skills in the field on Saturday.

Basic Level Avalanche Awareness is a short workshop that provides a basic overview and discussion of how to: recognize red flags, identify avalanche terrain, travel safely, and to perform a rescue. This is not a Level 1 training. It is intended only as awareness class. Additional training is recommended including a Level 1 or Level 2.

Classroom training is Friday, February 23 from 6-8 pm @ the University of Wyoming Watt Agriculture Center at Sheridan College.

Field training is Saturday, February 24 from 9 am to 12 noon at Red Grade Trails Base Trailhead.

Recommended equipment: Beacon, probe, shovel, pack, water.
Skis or snowshoes encouraged.

Registration is $35/per person, and is required for the classroom training.
