SCLT Explore History: Powwow Highway

SCLT Explore History: Powwow Highway

Join Sheridan Community Land Trust for a special evening edition of Explore History as we observe American Indian Heritage Month with a screening of “Powwow Highway” — a groundbreaking film recognized in the National Film Registry for its authentic portrayal of Native American life and its powerful cultural impact.

The film is celebrated for elevating Indigenous storytelling, tackling issues like poverty and environmental degradation, and highlighting spirituality, activism, and art. It also helped launch the careers of several Native actors.

Adding to its local connection, Powwow Highway was partially filmed right here in Sheridan — and some community members were even part of the crew and cast. Come experience this important piece of film history and celebrate American Indian Heritage Month with us. SCLT Explore History is free to attend and open to all.
