Red Grade Trails Closure Updates

Updated 6/1/26 – Red Grade Road Construction – Surveyors will be on Red Grade Road this week. Equipment will continue to be mobilized. Construction has not yet begun. Road work will temporarily close access to Red Grade Trails. Plan ahead before you go. See below for full project updates.

Updated 5/28/26 – Let ’em Roll between Elliot’s Saddle and Base Trailhead is open! Touch-ups at Highlander are complete. Visitors are asked to be mindful of freshly fixed trail surface as the trail settles and hardens.

Big Goose Natural Area Closure Updates

The BGNA may experience occasional closures as our neighbors at Bridges continue construction on their facility. Access may change periodically, so checking for updates before heading out is encouraged.

The Big Goose Natural Area is open to the public. There are no upcoming closures. 

What to expect at Red Grade Trails

Details may change throughout construction. Please check this link for the most up-to-date information.

  • As of May 18, during its pre-construction meeting, the US DOT Federal Highway Administration has provided these provisional details about the Red Grade Road Project. SCLT understands that these details are not finalized and are subject to change.
  • Subject to updates, Red Grade Road will be temporarily closed during construction. Expected to begin the week of June 15.
  • Closures are expected 8 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Other important dates:
    • Equipment and material staging to start the week of May 25 at the BLM stock rest
    • Surveying to begin first week of June
    • Traffic control and groundbreaking to begin the week of June 15
  • SCLT will participate in weekly construction meetings and update this page based on what is shared at the meeting.

    • Short out-and-backs can take you places like Magpie Draw, Pollywog Pond, Jensen Draw, and a scenic overlook on Soldier Ridge Trail
    • Learn with “History Along the Soldier Ridge Trail” – a GPS-based guided audio tour you can take on your phone or any connected device
  • Green Room Trail @ Malcolm Wallop Park
    • Expect more use when Red Grade Trails are closed, but not enough to make it feel crowded
    • Several connections to the paved Sheridan Pathway mean you can explore as much or as little of the trail as you like
    • Park at Malcolm Wallop Park or make your way utilizing the Sheridan Pathway system
