Summer is here, and so are two brand-new trails ready for you to explore at Sheridan Community Land Trust’s Red Grade Trails!

Fire Up is now open as a bidirectional hiking and biking trail, and Upper Drifter is a scenic bidirectional hiking trail—both accessible from the Aspens Trailhead. These additions offer exciting new ways to experience the beauty of the Bighorns, thanks to the hard work of K4 Trails, Montana Conservation Corps, AmeriCorps, and SCLT’s awesome Conservation and Recreation Interns.

Even more adventure is on the way with Upper Let ’Em Roll, a downhill biking trail, with construction to resume in 2025. Once completed, these three trails will complete three continuous routes from the Base to Bear Gulch at Red Grade Trails, giving visitors fresh loops and endless ways to connect with the outdoors.

Trail crews also completed key fire line repairs, allowing Fire Up to reopen and reconnect routes from Aspens Trailhead downhill to Springs and Base Trailheads. Just a friendly reminder: please stay off the repaired fire lines while they recover.

“Trails like these help people of all ages experience the peace and beauty of nature right in our backyard,” said Jared Koenig, SCLT Director of Recreation.

Construction will begin in 2025 on Highlander Trail, a bidirectional hiking and biking trail connecting the Aspens Trailhead to the Little Bear Loop. Wyoming Pathways has supported the construction of Highlander and the completion of Upper Drifter.

“These new trails would not be possible without the tremendous support of people in our community who have donated and volunteered many hours to build and maintain Red Grade Trails,” Koenig said, concluding, “SCLT greatly appreciates their help. These three trail connections are a big step in making our community’s shared vision for Red Grade Trails a reality.”

So grab your shoes, bike, or hiking buddy, and explore what’s new at Red Grade Trails!
