Anglers have a new reason to get outside this spring.

On April 8, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department stocked approximately 500 rainbow trout at the Sheridan Community Land Trust’s Big Goose Natural Area (BGNA). The fish, averaging about 7 inches in length, add to the existing rainbow and brown trout population in Big Goose Creek.

This stocking provides a timely opportunity for early-season fishing, especially for those looking to enjoy a quick outing close to town. BGNA’s accessible trails and creek access make it an easy place to spend a spring afternoon on the water. The site is open daily from dawn to dusk.

The SCLT Big Goose Natural Area is located at 14 Lane Ln. Visitors should be aware that there is ongoing construction in the area. Please follow all posted traffic directions and signs. The only legal access to the site is via Lane Ln.

Anglers are reminded that BGNA-specific rules apply. Fishing at the site is catch-and-release only, and only lures and flies with a single barbless hook are permitted. All anglers must also follow Wyoming Game and Fish regulations, including holding a valid fishing license.

Stocking efforts like this help create additional opportunities for people to connect with local waters while supporting a balanced fishery.

Whether you’re an experienced angler or just getting started, this latest stocking offers a simple way to enjoy the season and spend time along the creek.
