Welch Ranch was a lot of fun! While the adults had the nets up on the bridge trying to catch the sparrows, the kids took part in a number of activities. They made bracelets, a nest big enough for all of them to fit into, and got to measure their own “wingspans” with the banner from Jaclyn and Dustin Downey of the Audubon Society!
The sparrows were pretty skittish and didn’t want to get close to the nets or us, but we did net a bunting which the kids got to see get banded and weighed!
Just when we were all about to give up on the clever sparrows and pack out, they managed to catch one sparrow for us to look at up close! Then they helped band him and set him free.
