Unplug for October: Shovels and Spades!

Shovels and Spades on Red Grade Trails was the best! Steve Dudley, a local naturalist, led this event. He showed us the SCLT tool trailer and then gave us a briefing on some native and non-native plants along the trail. Then we grabbed some tools and head out on the trails to prep the grade for winter. We snipped branches and snags, pulled invasive species, and raked the slope so that water can drain off the trail in more areas.  Thank you, Steve, for teaching us all about trails and plants and the unique Red Grade ecosystem for a couple …

Unplug for September: Mud, Bugs, and Fish!

We had so much fun in the sun at the Scott Bicentennial Park in Dayton for our September Unplug event. We love holding our events all across Sheridan County to encourage different audiences to join! This was our only after school event, held at 4:30pm on a Wednesday. Bud Stewart brought the Wyoming Game and Fish’s stream trailer and taught us about the importance of vegetation along rivers and streams. Kary from the Conservation District in Sheridan did a water quality experiment in the Tongue River that borders the park. Then Jason Martineau with the DEQ grabbed a net and caught …

Unplug for July: Banding Cliff Swallows

Saturday, July 9th: Welch Ranch was a lot of fun! While the adults had the nets up on the bridge trying to catch the sparrows, the kids took part in a number of activities. The sparrows were pretty skittish and didn’t want to get close to the nets or us, but we did net a bunting which the kids got to see get banded and weighed! Just …

Unplug for June: Picnic on the Pathway

Sunday, June 26: Thank you to all of the kids and adults who biked, walked, or scooted to Washington Park to join us for sandwiches and refreshments on Sunday. It was perfect weather to enjoy all that Sheridan Pathways has to offer and to have a picnic in the park! This was a zero waste event, which means that all of the packaging could either be recycled or composted! A big thank you to Jimmy John’s for donating sandwiches and to Albertsons for donating chips for our event! To browse photos of past events and find out the details of …

Unplug for May: Spring has Sprung!

Sunday, May 22: We had so much fun hanging out on Red Grade Trails this afternoon enjoying the beautiful weather and sun-showers! Sarah Mentock of Science Kids set up a science-based scavenger hunt where kids and their families were challenged to use all five of their senses while enjoying the first two miles of Red Grade Trails. The flowers were in full bloom, the birds were singing, and we had snacks at the hub!
