Before kickoff, this crew got to work. While most folks were prepping for the Super Bowl, an incredible group of volunteers spent their Sunday morning at Streetcar #115 for our Streetcar Clean-Out Party — and what a difference you made.
Inside the car, volunteers:
• Cleared out broken glass and rotten wood
• Removed old benches
• Replaced rotten plywood over windows and boarded up additional openings
• Built stairs and a temporary door for safer access
• Cleaned up canvas roofing torn loose by the wind
It was gritty, hands-on work that moved this project meaningfully forward. Big Goose Natural Area is now home to Streetcar #115, the last original streetcar remaining in Wyoming. Thanks to this community, it has a real future.

What’s next?

Major progress has already been made. Thanks to nearly $60,000 raised from generous supporters, the historic streetcar has been successfully moved and construction of a protective shelter is scheduled for April.

After relocation and shelter construction, however, less than $20,000 will remain for restoration work.

The streetcar is currently tarped while we seek bids from a carpenter to repair damaged floor, wall, and ceiling sections. These stabilization efforts are essential to protecting the car’s structural integrity and preparing it for full restoration.

The newly formed Streetcar Working Group will meet this week to help guide the restoration process and ensure the next steps are thoughtful and well executed. We are honored to have earned the community’s trust to preserve this iconic piece of Sheridan County’s history and deeply grateful to the volunteers who helped move it forward.

Important milestones have been reached, but the work is not yet complete. Additional community support will be needed to fully restore the streetcar and ensure it can be experienced and appreciated for generations to come.

We are grateful for how far this community has carried the project and invite you to help us finish the work.
